Initial Thoughts:
Well-grown Papaya is typically a real treat to get your hands on and can often smell startlingly similar to the funky, skunky fruit. In this case DC cannabis storefront and i-71 dispensary, Elevated Lounge, has brought forth a phenomenal specimen and prime example of why this strain can be so joyful - even if you don't like papaya the fruit. In any case, I was super pumped to toke on this the second the aroma (spot-on for Papaya) made its way out of the bag and into my nose. 👃
Appearance:
Bright lime green with starry trichomes and light orange hairs.
Structure:
Fluffy, fat, and flaky. Crisp on the outer edges, but dense and sticky on the inside still. Perfect for the bong.
Status:
Fresh, but beginning to cure.
Aroma:
Fruity (in a tropical way), creamy, and skunky (in a funky way) much like an actual papaya fruit.
Flavor:
Very similar to its aroma, this one tastes like tropical fruit with hints of skunk and earth.
Lineage:
We're pretty sure this is a phenotype of the Papaya strain that was originally bred by Island Cannabis in California. They select from a network of trusted farms and breeders to identify the best flower and genetics - we're thinking that's where the "Island" in the name of this batch came from. Papaya, in general, is an indica-dominant cross of Citral #13 and Ice #2 that runs something like 70/30 on the indica/sativa ratio.
Effects:
With immense euphoria and soothing indica vibes this strain is phenomenal for relaxation and instills a long lasting sense of internal calm. Best for evening time or any highly relaxing sedentary activity, it can cause drowsiness in some, but I found myself mostly alert with a heavy body buzz.
Conclusion:
As blasts of arctic air rush to meet me every time I step outside it's nice to know that this Papaya, with a blast of tropical vacation in every hit, is waiting for me back inside. Who knows, we may even throw on some Hawaiian shirts and grill some pineapple to further up our staycation experience.
