Initial Thoughts
Emerging from District Cannabis' medical cultivation in Maryland, is Gelato Cake. This strain has been the talk of the town here in Maryland's medical cannabis market for years now, since it first launched. Even today it is said the consistency of its quality still reigns superior. After loving this strain for years, I can say it's one I never seem to get tired of. The merge of two of the most popular dessert-like cannabis strains in my mind, Gelato #33 X Wedding Cake, makes for an indica-leaning hybrid with a tremendously appealing flavor.
Appearance
The first thing that I noticed about this strain is how resinous it is! There is a thick coating of trichomes over every centimeter. Below the surface are unforgettable deep green and purple hues that are beautiful to look at.
Structure
Spade shaped, mid to large buds.
Status
Good cure. District Cannabis doesn't let down with their quality. You can tell that they put care into their flower through every step of the process, not forgetting the curing stage and how vital it is to have an enjoyable experience smoking the bud.
Aroma
Sweet warm aromas of creamy vanilla and bright mouth watering citrus. Also mixed in I smell a bit of pine, which helps provide an earthy more well rounded bite to it.
Flavor
With two tasty classic parents like this one has, it would be a big let down if the flavor didn't come through. I am elated to report that this flower tastes as good as it smells, if not better! It presents a beautifully rich vanilla, fuel, and pine taste that is enjoyable even throughout an entire "jay".
Lineage
Gelato #33 X Wedding Cake
Effects
The warming effects of the strain were instant. Yet, after I brewed for about 15 minutes, I started to feel the hunger and couch lock begin to set in. My nerves were calm, and I didn't have distractions circling in my brain. The high lasted for a long time and near the end of my experience I thoroughly enjoyed cuddling my pup in a blanket and falling asleep.
Conclusion
The most prominent terpenes in Gelato Cake are limonene, caryophyllene, and linalool and I'd say this batch has the prototypical terpene profile. Limonene can be an amazing aid for anxiety and depression by promoting an uplifting mental state. Linalool is also present in the strain, which is great for tranquility, pain relief, and getting sleep. Another thing to be said about this cultivar is that it's a great appetite enhancer - which explains why so many patients with suppressed appetites are finding relief from it. If this sounds like something you'd like to give a try, it's available throughout Maryland's Medical market, but I picked this up at one of my favorite dispensaries, The Living Room in Pikesville.
